The fine print
- What this compares. Your current average power bill of $181 a month against your solar payment of $157.00 a month, over 25 years. Utility escalated at 7.5% per year, solar at 2.99% per year.
- Still connected to the grid. You are still connected to the utility grid and would be expected to pay a small fixed monthly rate, considered the standard connection fee.
- Monongahela Power rates are moving. West Virginia regulators approved a two phase increase for Mon Power in 2026, about $3.65 a month beginning August 1, 2026 and about $4.01 a month more beginning June 1, 2027, taking a typical residential bill from $137.86 to $145.52. Mon Power residential bills have risen roughly 29 percent over the past five years. Past increases do not guarantee future ones.
